Fumiko Hoeft
Co-founder of Haskins Global Literacy
Fumiko Hoeft, MD, PhD, serves as Campus Dean of UConn Waterbury and holds professorships in Psychological Sciences, Neuroscience, Educational Psychology, and other disciplines. An internationally recognized cognitive neuroscientist, she has dedicated over 22 years to understanding the neuroscience of reading, dyslexia, emotional resilience, and well-being.
Dr. Hoeft co-founded the Haskins Global Literacy Hub in 2017, now revitalized and headquartered at UConn Waterbury since 2024, bridging initiatives with Yale Child Study Center and UConn Global. With training at Harvard, UCLA, Caltech, and Stanford, she has held faculty positions at Stanford, UCSF, and UConn since 2018. She has received numerous awards, including honors from the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), IMBES, and Society for Neuroscience, for advancing science education and public engagement. Dr. Hoeft has authored over 200 publications, delivered 300+ keynotes, and has been featured in outlets such as NPR, CNN, and Scientific American for her impactful research and advocacy.
